OOC note: This happened several days ago.
(Standing at the Crossroads with Preldin, Erdeluft, Ashinara, and Marian.) Mael'xanos walks in.
l mael
Mael'xanos has a healthy look to him so rarely seen in his people. Worn wild and blown, his shoulder-length hair is silvery-gray, and his mocking, slanted eyes of iridescent amber are characterized by a faint glow. His skin is bone-white, and his crooked nose appears to have been broken on more than one occasion. With a laid-back posture and a perpetual smirk, he radiates an easy confidence.
He is wearing a high steel pendant, some black camlet trousers, some knee-high black basilisk-hide boots, and a light blue cashmere cloak over a black milkweed shirt.
He has no wounds.
His hands are empty.
Preldin says, "Hello."
Erdeluft nods to Mael'xanos.
Mael'xanos gives an easy nod.
You nod to Mael'xanos in greeting.
Marian nods to Mael'xanos.
Ashinara reaches up and brushes back a lock of hair from his eyes and gazes absently into the sky.
Ashinara looks up at the sky.
Marian gazes curiously at Erdeluft.
Mael'xanos says, "Been very quiet in the city, these days. Barely a thing to be heard in the streets or sky."
Ashinara nods to Mael'xanos.
You agree with Mael'xanos.
You say, "Almost too quiet."
Erdeluft appears to be pondering Marian.
Ashinara says, "The dangers of the city wane and wax like the moons. Sometimes its extremely dangerous other times it's peaceful."
Erdeluft asks Marian, "Something on your mind?"
Mael'xanos begins leaning on a large building.
Marian glances curiously towards Preldin.
Preldin smiles at Marian.
Ashinara says, "Keeps things interesting."
Ashinara chuckles.
Shreds of white cloud blow past in an otherwise clear sky.
You rub your temples softly.
That feels wonderful!
Mael'xanos says, "Things come and things go. Some things were meant to go long ago, and others leave too soon. It's the way of it all."
You say to Mael'xanos, "I couldn't have put it better, milord."
Ashinara tilts his head slightly as he turns to examine Mael'xanos.
Marian says, "I like quiet."
Erdeluft ponders the situation.
Erdeluft whispers to Marian.
Ashinara says, "Well said."
Mael'xanos says, "You may call me Mael."
Marian grins at Erdeluft.
You say to Mael'xanos, "You may call me Rorah."
You curtsy to Mael'xanos.
Erdeluft coughs.
Erdeluft laughs.
Preldin peers at Erdeluft.
Erdeluft says, "Well thought somenone else was on that side of me."
Erdeluft snickers nervously.
Ashinara says, "Im Ashinara De'Alera, most call me Ash."
Marian points at Preldin.
Marian says, "Other side."
Erdeluft turns a bright red.
Preldin grins.
Erdeluft nods.
Ashinara says, "This is Marian, Preldin, and...im not sure I got the others name or if I have I'v forgotten my memory isn't always good."
Ashinara motions toward the others standing around the crossroads in turn.
Mael'xanos says, "I've picked up a few names, here and there."
You say to Mael'xanos, "But I am Aurorah Moonsong, in service to House Pendeleu."
Mael'xanos says, "Yes. You're a musician."
Erdeluft says, "So yea...i'm gonna...keep my mouth shut for a little bit..."
You blink at Mael'xanos.
Preldin whispers to Erdeluft.
Marian smiles at you.
You say to Mael'xanos, "After a fashion."
Ashinara heartily says to you, "Was at one of the ghent center affairs."
Erdeluft whispers to Preldin.
Mael'xanos says, "Only a fashion? I've heard the city has a sufficient quantity of musicians, among which you are one of the more skilled."
Preldin snickers at Erdeluft.
Ashinara smiles.
Marian says, "Yes, she is."
You emote: Aurorah looks taken aback.
Ashinara agrees.
Preldin nods agreeably to Mael'xanos.
Mael'xanos says, "I have found many musicians have defects of personality rather than physique."
You say, "Well, I am flattered to hear as much."
Mael'xanos says, "I would not be - yet."
Mael'xanos smiles at you.
Shreds of white cloud blow past in an otherwise starry sky.
Erdeluft sits on some wooden steps.
Erdeluft puts his head in his hands.
You ask, "Oh?"
Preldin sits on some wooden steps.
Preldin rubs Erdeluft's back.
You ask Mael'xanos, "Have you heard unflattering things as well?"
Ashinara straightens up.
Erdeluft cuddles Preldin in his arms.
Mael'xanos brushes his long fingers against his shirt in an idle manner, relaxing.
Mael'xanos says, "Not of you. I have witnessed it of others."
Ashinara glances thoughtfully at Mael'xanos's high steel pendant.
You say, "Ah. Well- sometimes the price of talent comes at a cost that is dear."
Marian rubs his head.
Ashinara says, "Everyone has their faults."
Erdeluft gets up off some wooden steps.
Erdeluft pulls Preldin to his feet.
Erdeluft asks Preldin to follow him.
Erdeluft walks north.
His group follows.
Mael'xanos says, "It is interesting, the idea of a fault being something that should be excused."
You emote: Aurorah glances in the direction of the departing rehari and then turns her attention back to the il'lthye.
Marian moves near you.
Ashinara says, "Not at all. However faults are a part of us and rather than be excused they should be noted and taken into account pending whatever situation arises. Sometimes they're taken advantage of other times they're nothing more than an idle thing that becomes or describes who a person is."
Mael'xanos says, "Too complicated."
Mael'xanos chuckles at Ashinara.
Clouds stream in huge, white-edged billows across the sky.
You say, "Hmm."
You smile faintly at Marian.
Ashinara chuckles.
Mael'xanos says, "And yet, perhaps true. I have wandered this city, examining many individuals in their own light."
Marian smiles warmly at you.
Ashinara says, "One of my own faults I think too much."
Ashinara says, "And say too much."
Ashinara looks up at the sky.
You say, "I have heard it said that forgiveness is not an attribute of the weak, but of the strong."
Mael'xanos says, "That might be so."
Ashinara asks, "I take it your from some sort of Musician guild? You wear a ghentian pendant, and seem to be taken account of the various musicians in the city?"
Ashinara glances curiously at Mael'xanos.
l mael's pend
Suspended from a chain of the same metal, this high steel pendant is embossed with the image of a raven clutching a lute.
Mael'xanos says, "I am not from any guild. I am a follower of Ghent himself."
Ashinara nods.
You say, "How interesting."
Ashinara asks, "Sizing up competition then?"
Marian nods slightly.
Erdeluft walks in carrying Preldin.
His group follows him in.
Mael'xanos says, "And you are correct. I have assessed the musicians."
You ask Mael'xanos, "You're a musician yourself then?"
Mael'xanos says, "I am not."
Erdeluft places Preldin back on the ground.
Marian glances at Erdeluft.
Preldin grins at Erdeluft.
You ask Mael'xanos, "Assessed them to what end, if I might be so bold as to inquire?"
Preldin begins leaning on Erdeluft.
Mael'xanos says, "I am an individual with another function in the service of Ghent, and in fact in the service of music."
Marian furrows his brow.
Ashinara asks, "You wouldn't be going around somehow causing murder by violins would you?"
A cloud moves across the sky, briefly blotting out the starlight.
Ashinara says, "Or rather, by violin music."
Erdeluft whispers to Preldin.
You emote: Aurorah pokes Ashinara sharply in the ribs.
Ashinara winces.
Ashinara rubs his ribs.
Ashinara asks, "What?"
You say to Ashinara, "Behave."
Ashinara says, "Never hurts to ask."
Mael'xanos dryly says, "But he is right. Someone is."
You nod to Mael'xanos.
Erdeluft stands behind Preldin and wraps his arms around his waist.
You say, "I know this well, sir."
Mael'xanos asks, "Is that so?"
Marian says, "Yes, I think most of here know well."
You say, "As does Marian here."
Preldin leans back against Erdeluft, smiling softly.
Ashinara says, "A few of my friends have been affected by the music."
Mael'xanos says, "I have apparently missed that discussion. My attempts to be subtle bore no fruit, but rumours eventually reached my ears."
You say, "Not to mention Inea, the Royal Magus, the Royal Bard, Aldan, and my former governess Suede."
Mael'xanos raises an eyebrow.
Mael'xanos says, "Well, well. A serial killer."
You sigh wearily.
You nod.
Erdeluft whispers to Preldin.
Preldin nods agreeably to Erdeluft.
You ask Mael'xanos, "I could do with a cup of...something and sitting down, would you care to join us?"
Ashinara says, "So it would seem. I am curious however, how you are involved in this? you mention subtlety which implies that you were investigating something."
Mael'xanos says, "I am. I would not mind stepping indoors."
You glance at Ashinara.
Torn rags of cloud flutter in a glassy sky.
Ashinara says to you, "Some place with Lumin tea."
Ashinara chuckles.
Mael'xanos begins to follow you.
You say, "Mauve's it is, then."
Ashinara steps away from his group.
Marian follows you.
Ashinara follows you.
Mael'xanos says, "I would be certainly interested in hearing more."
You ask, "Anyone else?"
You emote: Aurorah looks between Preldin and Erdeluft.
You say, "We shall be at Mauve's then."
You smile at Preldin.
Preldin shakes his head, "IW woan'f't mrirng aenyffhiwng ffaw f'thai diwssceowssssirawn."
Ashinara says to Preldin, "Never hurts to be informed."
You wave goodbye.
Preldin says in Rehari, "I''m moarra iwnfowrmrad rrhaen IW really waennae ffhi'nk aenawaof't."
Preldin waves.
(traveling ensues)
Mael'xanos says, "So rarely are their kind of use."
You frown slightly.
Ashinara says, "Some surprise you."
[Silver Plum, Mauve's Parlor]
Layered voile curtains frame a stained Isolian glass window, which reflects a muted collage of moonlit colors over the panelled silver moire walls. Formal groupings of plum damask chairs, velvet chaise lounges, and marquetry tea tables have been arranged throughout, creating an atmosphere that is both elegant and relaxing for its patrons. A narrow, ivory-topped teacart sits next to a pair of glass doors across from an ornate pink marble fireplace, banked with a glow of warm coals. Also here is Mimi the Parlor Maid (standing behind an ivory-topped teacart), Mael'xanos, Mareschal Marian of Pendram, and Mage Protector Ashinara of the Royal Guard.
Obvious Exits: None.
Fresh lilacs perfume the air with their heady fragrance as they spill from birch vases, set to either side of a large pastel-hued painting above a marble mantle.
Mael'xanos says, "I have been surprised many times in my life."
You close a pair of etched glass doors.
Mael'xanos says, "None originate with them."
(Mauve's is reached, people are seated and drinks are purchased)
You emote: Aurorah turns to Mael'xanos and a small frown darkens her features. She says, "What exactly would you like to know?"
Ashinara says, "And before anything is said really, I would like to know how your involved."
Marian sips his tea quietly.
Ashinara says, "Nothing more annoying than providing someone who means you harm with information that they can use to evade or distract you from completing."
Mael'xanos says, "I am surprised at your paranoia after volunteering information earlier."
Mael'xanos takes a sip from his plum-hued crystal cordial glass.
Ashinara says, "Oh it's not paranoia, and nothing that we say couldn't be learned anywhere else."
You ask, "Volunteering information earlier?"
Ashinara says, "But, might as well find out what your after in a bargain before offering everything freely."
Mael'xanos says, "I have been looking through musicians to try and determine which one is compromised."
Mael'xanos says, "For someone within this city is using a weapon. An old one, perhaps older than has any right to exist."
Ashinara says, "Mm, one that perhaps could have been used in the past to drive people crazy."
You say to Mael'xanos, "We have thought this ourselves."
Mael'xanos says, "I have not been able to find the compromised musician."
Ashinara glances at you.
Ashinara sighs.
Mael'xanos says, "It must be a musician with the ability to sing spellsong. Not just someone who is good."
You ask Mael'xanos, "By musician you are not implicitly implying a professional bard, are you?"
You say, "Ah, you are."
Mael'xanos says, "This weapon is not unique. We have seen them before. Most are harmless."
Ashinara says to Mael'xanos, "My apologies I have been in a bad mood lately I do not mean offence and if your here to help them I would gladly share with you what we have learned so far. I am simply tired of my friends being hurt."
You ask Mael'xanos, "Like drums, perhaps?"
Mael'xanos says, "I have not personally recorded drums."
Ashinara asks you, "Perhaps we should start from the begining?"
Mael'xanos says, "But within the records - for that is what my true function is - most instruments require a more personal level of contact than being beaten."
Marian says, "That's normally best."
You say, "Ah, the Royal Bard found something in her studies about a bardess who drove her husband mad by causing him to hear the sound of beating drums in his head."
Mael'xanos says, "Please do start from the beginning."
You say to Ashinara, "But yes. We shall begin at the beginning, and when we get to the end, we'll stop."
Ashinara chuckles.
Mael'xanos's eyes glint with a dry humour.
Mael'xanos says, "Yes, that does sound best."
You say, "It all began one evening when I was here with Ashinara having tea."
Ashinara nods to you.
Marian takes a drink from his silver-edged ivory teacup.
You say, "A group of people came in and started asking me questions about spellsongs, especially those which could harm others."
You say, "A young haefdin lass named Inea had apparently been struck down by the sound of violin music that only she could hear."
Ashinara takes a sip from his silver-edged ivory teacup.
You say, "It happened in the presence of three others, and nobody else heard a thing."
You ask Mael'xanos, "Have you heard the attacks described in detail?"
Mael'xanos says, "No."
You say, "It starts with a single vibrant note, the most pure note imaginable."
You sigh wistfully.
Marian shudders.
You say, "The note's intensity grows, begins vibrating- the mind begins to shriek in torture."
You say, "The note swells, and the lone note seems to turn into a veritable symphony, playing a dark dirge."
Mael'xanos nods slightly.
You say, "The music is mercilless, tearing the mind to pieces as the afflicted begins to feel their sanity collapse."
Mael'xanos says, "Dramatic imagery, but consistent with what I know."
Mael'xanos says, "The problem is that each of these... situations... has a unique solution."
Ashinara tilts his head slightly.
You say, "Then again, with a single low note- the music stops, along with the afflicted's heart."
You say, "I told the group I'd never heard of such a thing."
You say, "A few days later, Ashinara and I were sailing in from Never, and I was struck down."
Ashinara frowns.
You say, "Then three were killed in one evening."
You say, "The Royal Bard, the Royal Magus, and the healer Aldan."
You say, "On that night it was reported that another person's hair turned silver as these deaths happened."
Mael'xanos says, "Yes. I was hoping you would get to this part of the story. So it is known who is compromised."
Ashinara says, "What do you mean by compromised."
You say, "This person is a bardess, and also in possession of a strange violin."
Mael'xanos says, "Each individual who takes up one of these weapons is changed in some way. All changes are, in some part, voluntary."
Ashinara asks, "The person is using the weapon or violin in this case to kill people on purpose?"
You say, "Then Marian and Suede were struck down, along with Aldan a second time. This time in front of many witnesses including myself and Ashinara who also heard the music. We started bleeding from our ears and noses. It was horrid."
You shudder.
Mael'xanos says, "It is generally true that the musician who is afflicted must be corrected, unless they are too far gone."
Marian frowns.
Mael'xanos says, "I cannot say for certain who or what is doing the killing."
You say, "The bardess has gone through extraordinary changes in her features."
Mael'xanos says, "Each case is unique."
You say, "She has become increasingly more lovely."
You say, "Only one test was performed on the violin, but Ashinara can tell you about that."
Mael'xanos appears perplexed.
Mael'xanos asks, "More beautiful?"
You nod to Mael'xanos.
Ashinara says, "She was pretty before, but now she is rather astonishingly so."
Mael'xanos says, "Unusual. Physical transformations are not typical."
You say, "At first her hair turned silver, now it is a cinnamon color. Her skin has cleared, her health improved, and if I am not mistaken she has grown more buxom."
You glance at Ashinara.
Ashinara shrugs his shoulders at you.
You say to Ashinara, "You know her better than I."
Marian glances at Ashinara.
Mael'xanos asks, "Interesting. What is her name?"
You emote: Aurorah bites her lower lip.
You send out your telepathic message to Ashinara : Shall I tell him?
Ashinara says, "She is a friend, or was a friend of mine. I don't want to see her hurt."
You say, "We have no proof that she is the one causing this."
You say, "There is only theory and supposition."
Ashinara says, "But, it's Siovanhe Starsong."
Mael'xanos asks, "Thank you. Was that so difficult?"
Mael'xanos nods to Ashinara.
Ashinara says, "No. I do have a habit of being paranoid though, comes from a life of people trying to kill me and my friends."
Marian says, "Please excuse me."
(Marian leaves.)
Mael'xanos says, "How uninteresting he was."
Ashinara says, "I have told the IMperials all of this as well as the results of my examination of the violin she holds."
Ashinara says, "She isn't the type to hurt people on purpose."
You say to Mael'xanos, "His fiancee is suffering greatly due to these attacks. He is tasked with her care ever since the incident."
A pair of etched glass doors opens.
Dracan comes through a pair of glass doors.
Mael'xanos mirthlessly says, "I spoke with the Imperials. Their actions can be summed up as follows."
You smile at Dracan.
You ask, "Worthless?"
Mael'xanos says nothing.
Ashinara sighs.
You nod to Mael'xanos.
You say, "Exactly."
Dracan inclines his head, not speaking for wont of interruption.
Ashinara says, "When I examined the Violin, i couldn't find any trace of magik in it whatsoever, in most items they hold something, this one was as though it were completely dead although something kept tugging at me telling me there was something I was missing."
Ashinara says, "There was something strange about it, but it is out of my area of expertise."
Mael'xanos says, "These devices are complex. Most are in some way sentient."
Ashinara says, "I had thought it was perhaps possessed by some sort of spirit."
You say to Mael'xanos, "She refuses to let it be examined further, to discuss the subject, and in fact has sought sanctuary outside of Kaezar."
Dracan listens raptly, an eye arching at the word 'sentient.'.
Mael'xanos asks, "This does not have the attributes of a possession, then, does it not?"
Ashinara says, "Not really, Other than the fact that I havn't known Sio to hurt anyone."
You emote: Aurorah appears slightly confused by Mael'xanos' statement.
Ashinara says, "We've been researching it however haven't found much use."
You say to Mael'xanos, "I am sorry, but I don't understand what you mean? Perhaps I am being thick."
Mael'xanos says, "It does not sound as though Siovanhe Starsong is possessed."
Mael'xanos says, "From what has been said."
You ask, "If not possessed then somehow ensorcelled?"
Mael'xanos says, "I cannot say. We must find that answer."
Mael'xanos says, "And to do so, I will unfortunately need to meet her."
Ashinara says, "Hard to do. She refuses to speak with me, and is currently staying with one of the Local nobles who also doesn't like me much."
Dracan begins leaning on a pink marble fireplace.
Mael'xanos asks, "Who?"
Ashinara says, "Lord Esselyon."
You emote: Aurorah spreads her hand in a helpless gesture. "But you might not be able to. She is at Seton Keep with Lord Esselyon."
Mael'xanos says, "I am not in any rush."
Melissandra comes through a pair of glass doors.
You get up off a plum damask chair.
Melissandra closes a pair of etched glass doors.
Ashinara says, "He isn't fond of outside interferrence in anything he's taken an interest in."
You curtsy to Melissandra.
Melissandra turns to smile at everyone.
Melissandra smiles fondly at you.
Mael'xanos says, "I would simply appreciate a message being sent to her."
Melissandra moves to a chair near the fireplace.
Dracan inclines his head to the incoming lady.
Melissandra sits on a plum damask chair.
Mael'xanos says, "Requesting that she return to this city, so that I might see her."
You sit on a plum damask chair.
Melissandra inclines her head in greeting to Dracan.
Ashinara says, "Im sure a message could be arranged, just not a promise that she'll do that."
You say to Mael'xanos, "There is a courier service here in town that can arrange that, I am sure."
Mael'xanos says, "If I am correct, my presence being revealed to her will be an interesting alteration of the balance."
Ashinara furrows his brow.
Ashinara says, "Im still not sure how you fit into this exactly."
Melissandra settles herself more comfortably, though no less properly, in her chair.
Melissandra smiles at you.
Mael'xanos says, "I am not sure you need to know more than what I have said. All those gods who have followers require certain keepers of unpleasant facts."
Melissandra takes a sip from her silver-edged ivory teacup.
You whisper to Melissandra, "This man is investigating the violin incidents."
Ashinara touches his gold lion pendant hanging from a glittering chain.
Mael'xanos regards Ashinara with a lazy smile.
Melissandra gives the visitors an interested glance, her expression remaining pleasantly composed.
You say to Mael'xanos, "I do beg your pardon, may I introduce Lady Melissandra Pendeleu."
Dracan says, "Are there gods without followers? Seems an interesting notion."
Mael'xanos sits down on a velvet chaise lounge.
You emote: Aurorah indicates Melissandra with a wave of her hand.
Ashinara says, "Perhaps. Although as a Jakobian im rather straightforeward and it's in my nature to ask. Plus as a Royal it is my duty to keep my Captain and King informed on what goes on in his kingdom."
Ashinara says, "And an unknown element that appears from nowhere with knowledge of something that has been causing deaths is something that he would like to be informed of."
Melissandra takes a sip from her silver-edged ivory teacup.
You emote: Aurorah says apologetically to Melissandra, "I am sorry, I only know this gentleman as Mael, so I cannot give you a proper formal introduction."
Mael'xanos asks, "A lady?"
Mael'xanos puts the plum-hued crystal cordial glass on a marquetry tea table.
You nod to Mael'xanos.
Melissandra smiles at Aurorah when she replies, "There is no need to apologize, my dear. They are caught up in important things."
Mael'xanos says, "Most impressive. I was aware of a number of this city's finer bloodlines, but I did not expect to encounter any."
Melissandra smiles warmly at Mael'xanos.
Melissandra says to Mael'xanos, "I am certain you are very kind."
Mael'xanos rises to face Melissandra and gives a bow.
Ashinara says to Melissandra, " My apoligies Meli, I was distracted you know how I get sometimes."
Ashinara smiles.
You emote: Aurorah offers in explanation, "I am her Lady's Companion."
Melissandra continues to smile as she nods to Mael'xanos in acknowledgement of his courtesy.
Ashinara takes a sip from his silver-edged ivory teacup.
Melissandra says to Ashinara, "Do please continue your conversation. It is not my intent to interrupt."
Dracan straightens up.
Dracan bows slightly to Melissandra.
You say to Mael'xanos, "I was hoping that this could be handled more expediently, there are certain side-effects from these incidents that are plaguing people."
Melissandra smiles and nods to Dracan in turn.
Ashinara says, "No interruption really, This fellow seems to be able to help with the current situation dealing with the Violin music although he is better at evading certain questions than even I am."
Dracan murmurs, "M'lady."
Ashinara chuckles.
Mael'xanos says, "I have knowledge of certain more arcane processes in the matter of magical music."
Mael'xanos says, "There are those who watch the world for certain things."
Ashinara tilts his head slightly.
Melissandra says to Mael'xanos, "That is excellent news, sir."
Ashinara says, "Sounds like interesting people."
Mael'xanos says to Melissandra, "Knowledge is all I have. I cannot fix Siovanhe Starsong."
You say to Mael'xanos, "I am hoping that these side effects will cease and desist once this instrument is taken care of."
Mael'xanos says, "I do not know if it can be taken care of."
You put the plum-hued crystal cordial glass on a marquetry tea table.
You rub your temples softly.
That feels wonderful!
Mael'xanos says, "This woman is remarkably elusive."
You emote: Aurorah looks extremely disheartened at this news.
Dracan says, "She's also remarkably terse, if memory serves."
Mael'xanos glances at Dracan.
Ashinara nods to Dracan.
Ashinara says, "She can be yes."
Melissandra takes a sip from her silver-edged ivory teacup.
Mael'xanos says, "I cannot fix anything. I can only ask questions, if she will listen."
Dracan says, "Just fair warning."
Melissandra asks, "Warning?"
Dracan says, "Yes, of her terseness."
Melissandra's brows lift a touch at the word.
Melissandra says, "Ah."
Ashinara settles back into the lounge as he gazes thoughtfully into his cup of tea.
Melissandra asks, "One hears she has sought and received sanctuary at Seton Keep. Has there been an attempt to contact the regent Lord Esselyon?"
Mael'xanos says, "I have only just learned of this tonight."
Dracan says, "They'd just broached the subject."
Dracan nods to Melissandra.
Mael'xanos says, "I will need to speak with him, it appears."
Melissandra smiles at Mael'xanos.
You ask Mael'xanos, "Would you be willing to travel there?"
Ashinara takes a sip from his silver-edged ivory teacup.
Mael'xanos says, "Seton should not be a long journey. I will have to."
Melissandra says, "Then I wish you all good luck as many wish this matter resolved with all speed."
Mael'xanos says, "It is troubling. These weapons are each different, but the circumstances described do not fit with my prior data."
You emote: Aurorah gazes down at her slippers, her face a mask of stoic resolve.
Mael'xanos strokes his chin with long fingers, very pensive indeed.
Melissandra seems to give the matter some thought.
Ashinara says, "One other thing."
Ashinara says, "The last attack was different."
You say, "I believe I mentioned that."
Mael'xanos asks, "Yes?"
Ashinara says, "Aside from just causing death, it actively sought out knowledge from the person seeking something."
You say, "Oh yes."
You say, "I did forget to mention that part."
Ashinara pats your right arm.
Mael'xanos says, "I'm afraid I do not completely understand."
You say, "Also, nearly everyone attacked was a vedic save for the first kill."
Ashinara says, "It invaded their mind and sought out things of the past, secrets."
Ashinara says, "From what I was told it was looking through peoples mind for secrets."
You say, "It also appeared to travel through mind link on two different occasions."
Dracan is so rapt he looks vaguely spongelike. Completely absorbent.
You say, "The Royal Bard and the Royal Magus, and Suede and Marian."
Mael'xanos marvels at Dracan.
Ashinara shrugs lightly.
Ashinara says, "Just offering what little else I remembered from the attacks."
Ashinara nods to Mael'xanos.
Dracan does not wear square pants, however. Just to avoid confusion.
Mael'xanos says, "Curious. You have been most helpful in these matters."
Ashinara says, "Despite people thinking otherwise, I generally try to be."
Melissandra asks Mael'xanos, "Are these things usually sentient?"
Mael'xanos says, "Yes, to some degree."
Mael'xanos says, "They are all fashioned from what was once a mortal entity."
Ashinara asks, "What happens to those compromised that can't be cured or fixed?"
Melissandra's ivory complexion manages to grow a bit more pale.
Mael'xanos says, "You will get to see someone else try to kill another of your friends."
Mael'xanos smiles at Ashinara.
Ashinara frowns.
Mael'xanos says, "My job is to handle difficult cases in my devotion to the raven's cause."
Ashinara says, "I see. so you are the executioner."
Mael'xanos says, "You are a pessimist."
Ashinara says, "I prefer honest."
Melissandra asks Mael'xanos, "What usually becomes of such instruments?"
You ask, "The violin is somewhat sentient, but is not exerting any type of control over the compromised?"
Mael'xanos says to Melissandra, "They are rightfully relics of an age of the past. They are taken and studied by my superiors, and those who might follow the pure notes of harmonious music."
Mael'xanos says, "Each weapon has unique properties. Some are actually impossible to destroy."
Ashinara says, "Probably a good thing I didn't try to detonate it then."
Ashinara thoughtfully rubs his chin.
Melissandra asks Mael'xanos, "And these soulful instruments of beauty... They are kept safely and do not harm others?"
Dracan says, "The only impossibility in the world is for something to be impossible."
You say to Mael'xanos, "A Broc Caillean Lord has taken it upon himself to have a lead case forged to contain the thing."
Mael'xanos glances at you.
Ashinara says, "We've had a lead case made for it, hoping that it would contain it's vedic properties."
Mael'xanos says, "An interesting approach. I had not considered that."
Ashinara says, "Another Lords idea really."
Ashinara nods to Mael'xanos.
Mael'xanos says to Melissandra, "Certain things must be protected even as they are cherished."
Melissandra nods her agreement to Mael'xanos.
Mael'xanos says, "I do not have all the answers."
You glance fondly at Melissandra.
Mael'xanos says, "I cannot fix anything. I wish to make that clear."
Melissandra says, "The fact that souls are involved concerns me, despite any wicked results of their actions."
Melissandra puts the silver-edged ivory teacup on a marquetry tea table.
You say, "I heard someone say almost the exact same thing once."
Mael'xanos says, "My only weapon is that which I know."
Mael'xanos says, "And it will be a hard fight indeed, if this weapon is as powerful as it's indicated."
You emote: Aurorah blows a stray curl away from her face.
You say, "We also have theorized that it only works within a certain proximity."
You ask Mael'xanos, "Does that jibe with what you know?"
Mael'xanos says, "It is true for some."
Mael'xanos says, "I have encountered three prior examples of these weapons."
You ask, "Were they all composed of the same...person?"
You shudder slightly.
Mael'xanos says, "One was a flute. It killed by causing fits of ecstasy. Its essence appeared to be female, but we could discern no more."
You say, "Fits of ecstasy? At least they died happy."
Ashinara says to you, "Just like the beautiful music im sure."
Ashinara frowns.
You emote: Aurorah tries to grin impishly but it falls flat.
Mael'xanos says, "Another was a bell. Its killing abilities were absolutely independent of both its sound and its owner."
You emote: Aurorah looks completely flabbergasted by this statement.
Melissandra asks, "Could you be more specific with that last statement?"
Ashinara says, "I think this one is similar, at least one of the attacks that I know of the violin was in no way in proximity of the current owner."
Ashinara nods to Mael'xanos.
Mael'xanos says, "Once rung, the next individual to pass through the area in which it was rung simply died."
Ashinara says, "It was locked away in her room while she was elsewhere in the city."
Melissandra says, "Oh dear."
Mael'xanos says, "Its essential nature did not appear to be a sentient race. It was bestial, and male."
You say to Ashinara, "I didn't know this."
Mael'xanos says, "Perhaps an animal, or some race we could not identify."
Melissandra says, "One cannot help but pity the souls trapped within."
Mael'xanos says, "I am not sure what is trapped within."
You say, "I did not experience anything gender specific."
Ashinara takes a sip from his silver-edged ivory teacup.
Melissandra looks nonetheless saddened at the thought.
Mael'xanos says, "Of the three examples I have handled, no clear determination could ever be made. The sentience was rudimentary, degraded."
Ashinara says, "Well aside from the violin, the legend that was discovered sounded vaguely similar you may have to search out some drums next."
Mael'xanos asks, "You would give an executioner more work?"
You say to Ashinara, "I am sure they are long lost to time."
Ashinara says, "I havn't decided anything about you yet."
Ashinara says, "We'll see."
Mael'xanos says, "Honest and snap-judging. A dangerous combination."
Melissandra says, "I, for one, would be glad to see this violin given over to the beloved Ghent should it bring safety and peace."
Mael'xanos chuckles at Ashinara.
Ashinara smiles at Mael'xanos.
Mael'xanos gets up off a velvet chaise lounge.
You say, "The task at hand will be to wrest the violin from Siovanhe."
Ashinara says, "I am who I am."
You pat Ashinara's right hand.
Mael'xanos says, "A soul such as mine is fragile."
Melissandra says to you, "It has made her beautiful. It may be a very hard thing to do."
You nod to Melissandra.
Dracan asks, "Cashmere is the executioner's first choice in fabric. Didn't you know?"
Melissandra grins at Dracan.
You smile faintly.
A middle-aged male il'lthye of the house Broc Caillaen, Mael'xanos has a healthy look to him so rarely seen in his people.
Melissandra says to Dracan, "Always an excellent choice for those often feeling a chill."
Dracan says, "He could hardly be blamed."
Melissandra says, "None should be when one dresses fashionably."
Mael'xanos says, "Removing it from her would be ill-advised."
Melissandra's gaze shines with amusement.
You peer at Mael'xanos.
You ask, "It would?"
Melissandra turns towards Mael'xanos.
Mael'xanos says, "It has done things to her. We must undo them first."
You say, "I thought you couldn't fix her."
You emote: Aurorah looks perplexed.
Mael'xanos says, "I do not know if I can. I can only try."
Mael'xanos smiles at you.
Ashinara reaches up and brusehs back a lock of hair from his eyes.
You emote: Aurorah offers Mael'xanos a genuine smile.
Ashinara addresses Mael'xanos, "If you need help with undoing whatever it is doing to her, I'll do what I can. I just don't want her hurt."
Mael'xanos says, "I suspect I will need plenty of help."
You say to Mael'xanos, "So you cannot tell us at all if there is any hopes of the damage caused by these attacks being undone."
Dracan says, "Well, depending on your definition of the word fix, I don't think he could. But, then, I don't think a god could truly fix Siovanhe."
Melissandra glances quickly at Dracan.
Mael'xanos says, "The only god with no true followers can fix us all, my friend."
Mael'xanos says, "But he is not the one we shall speak of or pray to."
Ashinara says, "Jakob will light the way. He always does."
Dracan squints at Mael'xanos.
Mael'xanos says, "I will look for this Siovanhe Starsong. I recommend that you all look for her, as well. Bring her to this city, or to me, if I do not find her first."
Dracan says, "There you go with that again. I should like to know more of this followerless god of yours."
You say, "She is at Seton Keep, surely with no plans of quitting the place. She is under the protection of Lord Esselyon."
Melissandra gets her silver-edged ivory teacup from a marquetry tea table.
Ashinara heartily says to Dracan, "Speaks of the nameless I believe, and you don't want to know much about him because if he fixed us we wouldn't be here."
Melissandra says, "Indeed."
Mael'xanos says, "I do not speak the name of the Antithesis."
Mael'xanos nods.
Mael'xanos says, "Good night."
Mael'xanos opens a pair of etched glass doors.
Mael'xanos walks through the glass doors.
A pair of etched glass doors closes.
Melissandra ponders the situation.
Ashinara thoughtfully frowns at a pair of etched glass doors.
Dracan says, "I didn't figure so. That one couldn't rightly be called a god, to my reckoning."
You emote: Aurorah blinks in surprise at the il'lthye's sudden departure.
Ashinara says, "An eternal."
Melissandra takes a sip from her silver-edged ivory teacup.
Dracan says, "Besides, even the Nameless has followers. Or those that claim it. I've met a few."
Ashinara says, "I don't know what to think of him."
Ashinara says, "He's dangerous though."
A mysterious figure with an oddly convenient amount of information... can he be trusted? What is his true goal? Is what he said true? More and more questions are spawned by every answer. Only time and the inevitable confrontation will tell.
Melissandra takes a sip from her silver-edged ivory teacup.
Dracan says, "He's a Broc. Most of them are."
Ashinara sighs.
You emote: Aurorah's hands tremble slightly as she reaches toward her neckpouch.
You get all the coins from your tiny carmine neckpouch on a silk ribbon.
Mimi pours a small amount of dark purple liquid into a heavy crystal cordial glass and hands it to you.
Ashinara says, "I need to find out who these watchers are."
Ashinara frowns.
Dracan says, "Said with only respect in mind, have you."
Melissandra watches Aurorah quietly over the rim of her teacup before sipping from it.
Melissandra says to Ashinara, "It seems you have little choice in the matter."
Ashinara says, "Oh i'v plenty of choices."
Ashinara grins at Melissandra.
Melissandra smiles at Ashinara.
Ashinara says, "I don't however intend on handing anyone over to someone just because they show up knowing something."
Melissandra says to Ashinara, "We know you too well to think otherwise."
Ashinara says, "Hopefully he's here to help though."
Melissandra asks, "But I have missed something. What do you mean by watchers?"
Dracan says, "The effectiveness of which may be limited..."
Ashinara says, "He mentioned he was a part of a group that watches for certain items to appear in public."
Ashinara says, "Items of power."
Melissandra says, "Ah."
Ashinara says, "I'v a few contacts I can go through."
Ashinara says, "I'll see what I can find out about them."
Ashinara says, "Maybe they are good people."
Dracan says, "There are countless groups who could fit that description, I'd wager."
Ashinara nods.
Ashinara says, "Indeed." _________________ You emote: Aurorah stands on her hind legs and swats playfully at the oylet's tail.

[The Diamond, Pub Room]
Its tester-like canopy held up by slightly risque columns of amorously entwined sailors and mermaids, a massive mahogany bar takes up the east side of this elegantly appointed pub. Candlelight glints off the cut crystal decanters and polished brass taps behind the bar. Five luxurious booths line the west wall, while an elaborate arch leads back into the hallway. Next to a half-door leading into the kitchen, a neatly lettered menu hangs on the wall behind the bar. Also here is Seydrilla the barmaid, Ghentian Cleric Mael'xanos, Lilt, and Mage Protector Ashinara of the Royal Guard.
Obvious Exits: None.
You nod to Mael'xanos in greeting.
Lilt asks, "Did you ever have luck finding the Royal Bard?"
Mael'xanos says, "No. I have obtained sufficient information to allow me to believe I do not need to see her."
Lilt turns and grins at Ashinara and Aurorah, "Ash, Aurorah, have you met this gentleman?"
Ashinara nods.
Ashinara says, "We have."
You nod to Lilt.
You say, "Yes, of course."
Ashinara says, "He's after Siovanhe's Violin."
Lilt asks Mael'xanos, "Are you still in need of a bard?"
Ashinara says, "He's been looking for the compromised Bard."
Lilt says, "She won't give it up willingly."
Mael'xanos exclaims, "Such a blunt statement!"
Lilt laughs.
Ashinara smiles at Mael'xanos.
Ashinara asks, "Was it not the truth?"
Lilt says, "It is a truthful statement."
Mael'xanos says, "It is possible that such statements may quickly become dangerous, especially when they are not certainly true."
Lilt says, "I can tell you where she is."
You say to Lilt, "We have."
Ashinara tilts his head slightly as he furrows his brows.
Lilt gazes at Mael'xanos.
Ashinara says, "Perhaps we could discuss this in one of the booths then to clear up any misconceptions."
Mael'xanos says, "Your misconceptions."
Mael'xanos smiles at Ashinara.
Ashinara spreads his hands.
Lilt says, "Perhaps you will have better luck."
Mael'xanos says, "I do not intend to simply take it from her."
Mael'xanos says, "But if you wish to speak, let us speak. I do not hurry in this matter."
Lilt says, "She is under the Lord Esselyon's protection."
Ashinara nods to Lilt.
Mael'xanos says, "Yes. Lords do not intimidate me. Even those reputedly as mad as hatters."
Ashinara chuckles.
Lilt grins crookedly.
Mael'xanos goes into a booth.
Ashinara says to you, "I may start to like him more and more."
Lilt opens her mouth as if to say something.
Ashinara asks Lilt, "Join us?"
Mael'xanos walks away from the sea green booth.
Mael'xanos says, "I do not like that green color."
Mael'xanos shakes his head.
Ashinara says, "I prefer blue."
Lilt says, "Sea green is a lovely colour."
You say, "I fancy red."
You shrug.
Ashinara chuckles.
You say, "But that's just me."
Mael'xanos begins to follow you.
Ashinara follows you.
Mael'xanos says, "Red is a sanguine color, a happy color."
You agree with Mael'xanos.
You peer at Lilt.
You ask, "Joining us?"
Lilt begins to follow you.
You go into the booth.
Your group follows you.
[The Diamond, Red Booth]
Providing some privacy from the barroom, the two high-backed benches which surround this booth are carved in low relief with scenes of seafarers and sailing ships. With its deep red damask-draped trestle table and thickly cushioned benches, the booth is bright and cozy. A little brass plaque, lovingly polished, hangs on the wall above it. Also here is Ghentian Cleric Mael'xanos, Mage Protector Ashinara of the Royal Guard, and Lilt.
Obvious Exits: out.
Lingering tobacco smells blend pleasantly with the rich scent of leather and fine liqueurs.
Lilt asks, "Why not?"
Ashinara says, "Red is always danger."
You say to Ashinara, "Good thing you love danger."
(Everyone sits down)
Ashinara takes a sip from his etched crystal wine glass.
Mael'xanos takes a sip from his graceful crystal wine glass.
Ashinara chuckles at you.
You emote: Aurorah toys with a russet curl.
Lilt grins at you.
Ashinara says, "My apologies then if I misinterpreted our last conversation, I was under the impression your organization wanted these items of power."
Mael'xanos says, "We keep those things that are dangerous."
Lilt looks across the table at her companions, "Are there other items that you are seeking besides the infamous violin?"
Mael'xanos says, "Many gods and forces beyond the sight of our eyes leak into this realm."
You say to Mael'xanos, "I do hope you will beg my pardon if I ask you a pointed question, I am not meaning to be rude."
Mael'xanos says, "There are those in the employ of all gods, not simply my devoted choice, that seek as I do."
Mael'xanos says, "Those who keep the lore, the secrets, the unwritten laws."
Mael'xanos says, "I do not understand what is so shocking about this concept."
Lilt takes a sip from her etched crystal wine glass.
You ask Mael'xanos, "How can we know you are who you say you are?"
Ashinara says, "Nothing. Except for the fact that when an unknown element appears seeking what appears to be a dangerous weapon I am sure you can understand why people would be interested in knowing exactly who, as Aurorah says that person is and whether or not their supposed intentions are truth."
You say to Mael'xanos, "I do not doubt your veracity, sir. But once bitten, twice shy as the saying goes."
Mael'xanos asks, "It is clear to me that the compromised bard has been failed by those who would be called her friends. From the information I have gathered, she may be completely lost. To what standing do you owe your inquiries regarding her safety _now_?"
Lilt opens her mouth as if to say something.
Lilt asks, "How has she been failed?"
You say, "We all did the best we could to the utmost of our ability. Siovanhe has never been an overly gregarious person."
Ashinara raises his hand.
Mael'xanos says, "It may be that the choice of victim was intentional, then. How intriguing."
Mael'xanos rubs his chin.
Ashinara says, "I understand. She was a friend who feels that she was betrayed. I'v talked to her enough to know that she at least is angry enough at me to believe that I have just used her in the past, however misconceptions do happen and more often than not among friends."
Mael'xanos says, "I will grant that those we are closest to can wield great force over our lives."
Ashinara says, "But She has always been a friend to me regardless of whether or not she is currently mad at me, as well as the fact that While I hold her safety in high regard I also have a duty to see to the safety of others as well."
Mael'xanos says to you, "Your question is a decent one. I have no durable proof. I do not need any. My faith in my mission guides me. All else is expendable."
Mael'xanos says, "Including, in the end, myself."
You say to Mael'xanos, "Because of her quick wit and sharp tongue, she does give the impression in general that she detests most people on sight. That is not a true impression. It takes time for her to warm up to people."
Mael'xanos says, "If I fail, others will come."
You glance at Ashinara.
Ashinara says, "My real question to you is, why should your secret group be the one to safeguard it when you allready have several of these items."
Ashinara says, "We cannot know your true intentions other than your words. And if the weapon is indeed as dangerous as you say then I doubt the king will want to give it to a wandering priest that he has never heard of or a group of secret people that may or may not use it for their own end."
Lilt quietly listens.
Mael'xanos chuckles.
Mael'xanos says, "It is a somewhat incredulous story, isn't it."
Ashinara says, "Indeed."
Ashinara says, "Im sure you understand why I stand where I do."
You emote: Aurorah gently says, "We are not trying to bite the hands that feeds us." She gives Ashinara a slightly reproachful look. "We are just trying to be careful in this situation."
Ashinara takes a sip from his etched crystal wine glass.
You say, "Some situations call for tweezers and not sledgehammers."
Mael'xanos glances between Aurorah and Ashinara with a somewhat bemused expression.
Mael'xanos asks, "I wonder which you consider yourselves to be?"
Lilt says, "We've already lived through the infamy of the zu'wraith."
Ashinara says, "Probably the sledgehammer."
Ashinara chuckles.
You point at Ashinara.
You say, "Sledgehammer."
You point at yourself.
You say, "Tweezer."
Mael'xanos says, "I see someone with bravado, someone who is attempting to behave more properly, and a diva. These three are before me."
Lilt gazes at her fingernails.
You chuckle.
Lilt says, "You make snap judgements."
Mael'xanos asks, "Am I incorrect?"
Ashinara says, "Not in my case."
Ashinara shrugs.
You say, "More properly than what would be my question."
You grin at Mael'xanos.
Ashinara says, "Unless I was supposed to be the diva."
Mael'xanos says, "I cannot demonstrate my power beyond that which I already have: knowledge."
You emote: Aurorah taps her lips thoughtfully with her forefinger.
Ashinara takes a sip from his etched crystal wine glass.
You say, "Yes, but is some off that knowledge to be shared with us? I believe an exchange of knowledge is fruitful."
Lilt glances at Mael'xanos.
You say, "Before you leave, I have a question."
Lilt asks, "How can we possibly help if we are left in the dark?"
You ask Mael'xanos, "Have you ever heard of someone referred to as `The Bard King`?"
Mael'xanos blinks, seemingly losing the train of the conversation for a moment.
You ask Mael'xanos, "Is something amiss?"
Ashinara takes a sip from his etched crystal wine glass.
Lilt gazes at Mael'xanos, her brow furrowed.
Mael'xanos shakes his head.
Mael'xanos says, "No. It was just..."
Mael'xanos waves.
Mael'xanos asks, "I cannot prove a negative: if you doubt me, then I can never dispel the doubt, for nothing can erase doubt but the doubt's owner, himself. If you wish to know something, can me telling you everything actually help?"
Ashinara says, "It couldn't hurt."
You say to Mael'xanos, "It might compel us to be more forthcoming with whatever information we may or may not have."
You say to Mael'xanos, "Cooperation is a two-way street, sir."
Mael'xanos says, "I suppose that is true.."
Mael'xanos slides into the booth and has a seat on the bench.
Mael'xanos takes a drink from his graceful crystal wine glass.
Lilt nods to you.
You emote: Aurorah fastens a genuine smile upon Mael'xanos.
You get the impression your smile has no effect, judging by the slightly dead look in the cleric's eyes.
Lilt takes a sip from her etched crystal wine glass.
Mael'xanos says, "I am a cleric of Ghent, that much is the truest word there is."
You nod to Mael'xanos.
Lilt says, "This is wonderful."
Mael'xanos says, "I devoted myself to the preservation of his lore, the keeping of musics and scrolls untold."
Lilt says, "I am a follower of Ghent."
Mael'xanos says, "So most musicians claim to be."
Mael'xanos says, "In word, or in deed, it is worship of a kind."
Mael'xanos says, "I devoted myself to the study of the deeper harmonies of the weave."
You nod to Mael'xanos.
Mael'xanos says, "The binding power of spellsong, a song that I do not wield myself, was interesting."
Mael'xanos says, "It drew me from my home, my origins themselves."
Ashinara settles back into the bench as he listens quietly his head tilted slightly.
Mael'xanos says, "I have long since forgotten how to speak telepathically with my own kind, and I do not care."
Mael'xanos says, "The music was all that mattered."
You emote: Aurorah nods with interest, waiting for the cleric to continue.
Mael'xanos says, "But as with any force, great and grand, there are... deviations."
Mael'xanos says, "I was recognized for my role as an individual who amassed the arcana, the obscurities."
You ask, "Bastardizations of the truth, the warps in the weft of the weave, as it were?"
Mael'xanos says, "And I was tasked to track more down. Not all gods speak to their followers as a flaming lion or shiny fireball."
Ashinara says, "The lion was impressive..."
Lilt chuckles at Ashinara.
Mael'xanos says, "The way of the harmony inherent in music is more subtle. More flexible. There are very few true bastardizations."
Mael'xanos says, "But... someone found a way."
Mael'xanos says, "Someone committed a crime that even music itself cannot abide by."
You emote: Aurorah shudders at this statement.
Mael'xanos's words ring somewhat hollow, somehow sour.
Mael'xanos says, "Their initial intentions are unknown to us."
Mael'xanos says, "But instruments have been found, a very small few, that are crafted with a great power."
Mael'xanos says, "They are immortal, perhaps sentient. We still do not fully understand them."
Mael'xanos says, "And they contain something inside them, some extreme animus, some extreme pathos for which there is no cure. No rest."
Ashinara reaches up and brushes back a lock of hair from his eyes.
Lilt sighs.
You ask, "So our question is, you keep them for study and to protect Thrael and its inhabitants from this anomalous power?"
Mael'xanos says, "They are anathema, a sin in the eyes of the master of music. They seek musicians and they destroy them. We do."
Mael'xanos asks, "And what gives us that right?"
Ashinara says, "I can understand that actually as a follower of Jakob I feel similar toward Vaenites."
Ashinara nods to Mael'xanos.
Ashinara rubs his head slightly as he closes his eyes in apparant thought.
Mael'xanos says, "That right is my own. I have taken it. I, who believe in myself, draw my strength from those truths I told before myself."
Lilt glances at her polished dyrewood violin case.
Mael'xanos says, "I know what I do is for the best."
You say, "Ah, the belief in one's own self."
You say, "That is one of the powers behind being a bard of any worth."
Mael'xanos says, "If such a thing exists."
Mael'xanos smiles.
You say, "Granted."
Mael'xanos says, "Beneath the surface of any god, there are thousands like me. They seek the mend the frayed tapestry of belief."
Mael'xanos asks, "Do you understand?"
You say, "I understand. I have used the tapestry analogy myself, recently."
Lilt listens to the conversation between Aurorah and Mael'xanos.
You ask, "Now I will ask you again, have you heard tell of someone who calls himself, `The Bard King`?"
You send out your telepathic message to Ashinara : I am sorry, I believe him. I had to ask.
Ashinara rubs his head.
You send out your telepathic message to Ashinara : Please forgive me.
Mael'xanos says, "There are a number of individuals who have claimed such a title."
Mael'xanos says, "Similar to those who rise to great power in this era."
Mael'xanos says, "Warlords, merchants, priests, and others."
Mael'xanos says, "It is not unique in history."
You nod to Mael'xanos.
You say, "We believe that someone claiming to be such may be advising our `compromised` bardess."
Mael'xanos says, "I do not know. I obviously do not have my records with me at this moment. They are too valuable to transport when I go afield."
You say, "Perhaps he is, in actuality, the compromised one and not Siovanhe."
Mael'xanos says, "It is quite possible. Many of the instruments share attributes of sentience. It is possible she is submissive to the instrument's will."
You say to Mael'xanos, "It is possible that she is actually meeting with this person."
Mael'xanos raises an eyebrow.
Mael'xanos asks, "An actual person?"
Lilt asks, "Could the instruments power change a person physically?"
You say to Lilt, "He knows of Siovanhe's physical changes."
Mael'xanos says, "It has never been recorded. Almost all changes are mental, or behavioral, if you prefer."
You say to Mael'xanos, "As far as this being an actual person, that is what we have been led to believe."
Lilt says to you, "I'm sorry to interrupt."
Ashinara glances up after a few moments finally opening his eyes "Siovanhe will likely meet with you, she showed interest in it. If you will all excuse me I believe I need a walk."
Ashinara gets up off a high-backed bench.
Ashinara bows politely.
You say to Lilt, "No worries, my dear."
You send out your telepathic message to Ashinara : You're mad at me.
You sigh.
Mael'xanos nods to Ashinara.
Mael'xanos says, "Well, this has been a delightfully assumption-free evening."
Mael'xanos takes a drink from his graceful crystal wine glass.
Ashinara says, "If you're telling the truth, I have no problem with you. If you're not. Then know that I like you know that what I do is for the best. I will find out the truth Jakob always lights my way and I will make sure justice is meted out to those hurting my friends""
Ashinara turns and steps out of the booth an obvious look of anger showing.
Ashinara leaves the booth and walks back into the barroom.
You say, "Since we have no solid fact to base anything we can have nothing but assumption and conjecture."
Lilt glances out the booth.
Mael'xanos says, "I believe his bravado is his single redeeming attribute."
Mael'xanos chuckles mildly.
You shake your head.
You say, "He is devoted utterly to his friends."
Mael'xanos says, "So I see."
Lilt says, "And I am devoted to practicing."
You say, "But I have angered him, I fear, in sharing this information with you."
Lilt gets up off a high-backed bench.
Lilt says, "I don't seem to be very useful here... though I thank you, It's been informative."
You look at Lilt and open your mouth as if to say something.
You say, "You are a bardess and a violinist, I would think your input valuable."
Mael'xanos says, "I suspect I will need more than being pointed in the right direction, when the time comes."
Lilt says, "Every Diva needs to keep his or her skills honed."
You gaze upward to the heavens.
Mael'xanos says, "I see. Good night, then."
Lilt says, "I am most happy to help in whatever way I can."
You say to Lilt, "Goodnight Lilt. Fairest rest to you."
Lilt nods.
Lilt says, "Good night."
Lilt says, "Good night, Cleric of Ghent."
Mael'xanos bows his head.
Lilt says, "I hope I am deserving."
Lilt nods.
Lilt waves.
Lilt leaves the booth and walks back into the barroom.
Mael'xanos asks, "Of what does she believe she needs to be deserving?"
You emote: Aurorah slumps in her seat and buries her face in her hands for a moment before straightening up and looking the cleric in the eyes.
You ask, "Of Ghent's favor, I suppose. Or of being included in this search. Who knows?"
You say, "Lilt can be a tad on the dramatic side, but she is an excellent musician."
Mael'xanos says, "I do not know what I will find when I search."
You say to Mael'xanos, "That is what makes searching so interesting."
Mael'xanos says, "I do not need musicians. I require those with faith and harmonious souls."
You ask, "Faith in what, exactly?"
Mael'xanos says, "That remains to be seen. If Siovanhe Starsong is gone, then faith in me. If she is to be salvaged, then faith in her."
You say to Mael'xanos, "I saw the look in her eyes when she saw a picture of my son as an infant. In that moment I saw her mortality, her inner beauty. I will stand for her if need be."
You say to Mael'xanos, "Perhaps that does not mean much to you, but it does for me. As far as possessing a harmonious soul, I can only strive to do so."
You say, "Ashinara will stand for Siovanhe as well. I can tell you that he absolutely does not trust you yet. But you already know that."
Mael'xanos smiles, but the deadness in his eyes seems to render it almost a futile expression.
Mael'xanos says, "Yes. It will need to be seen."
Your telepathic dual link fades away.
You say to Mael'xanos, "I do want to believe that you are who you say you are."
Mael'xanos asks, "Does it matter?"
You emote: Aurorah tucks a stray curl behind her left ear.
Mael'xanos takes a drink from his graceful crystal wine glass.
You ask Mael'xanos, "If you are on the side of the good?"
Mael'xanos says, "If I am who I say I am."
You say, "If you are who you say you are, then you are on the side of the good."
You say, "If you are here to gather this abomination and secure it far away where it can no longer harm people, than that is a good thing."
Mael'xanos says, "Then I believe we are in agreement."
Mael'xanos says, "I will find Siovanhe soon. When I do, we shall see what is truly afoot."
You say, "I truly wish no harm upon Siovanhe. But this must be stopped."
You rub your temples softly.
That feels wonderful!
Mael'xanos says, "Yes. It will not continue."
Mael'xanos gets up off a high-backed bench.
You say to Mael'xanos, "Then you will have my assistance should you want it. If my soul is harmonious enough."
You smile crookedly at Mael'xanos.
Mael'xanos says, "Good night."
Mael'xanos puts his graceful crystal wine glass aside.
You say, "Good night."
Mael'xanos leaves the booth and walks back into the barroom.
You sigh.
You emote: Aurorah buries her face in her hands and begins to sob quietly.
You say, "Dear gods, I hope I have done the right thing."
You prepare a spell.
Your spell is ready.
You get a thoughtful look upon your face.
You send out your telepathic message to Ashinara: I know you are angry with me and for that I am sorry. *her thoughts take on a frantic, almost frenzied urgency* I just do not know how much longer I can continue to go on like this. Please, please forgive me. I cannot make it through this without you.
Also here is Seydrilla the barmaid.
Obvious Exits: None.
Lingering tobacco smells blend pleasantly with the rich scent of leather and fine liqueurs.
You prepare a spell.
Your spell is ready.
You get a thoughtful look upon your face.
You send out your telepathic message to Ashinara: As you wish, my love. I do love you. Perhaps soon you will understand how much. I am going away for a little while. Perhaps the Right Reverend can help me.
You get up off a high-backed bench.
You leave the booth.
[The Diamond, Downstairs Hallway]
Arching gracefully overhead, a magnificent strapwork plaster ceiling decorated with numerous pendants and applied ornaments crowns this regal central hallway, the hub of the manor. Carved arches lead into stately rooms to the west, north, and south, while the large double-story entry foyer lies east. An enormous spray of garden flowers stands atop a ponderous mahogany desk, which has been awkwardly fitted into the southeast corner of the hall. Also here is Oceanya (sitting on a upholstered chair).
Obvious Exits: east.
Ashinara appears in a burst of essence.
Ashinara frowns at you.
You emote: Aurorah dissolves into full on tears, hiccuping with fretful sobs.
Ashinara says, "Otrygg can't do anything."
Ashinara follows you.
You sniffle.
Ashinara says, "Let's go somewhere and talk."
(Aurorah fumbles around for a while trying to find her room.)
You say, "I hate this place."
You emote: Aurorah is almost blinded by her tears.
[The Diamond, The Nautilus Guest Room]
Soft shades of the palest blue, coral and mauve swirl in a delicate wash upon the walls of the chamber. Moonlight filters through the thick panels of an oriel window, highlighting the velvet hangings that drape a great four-poster bed, which sits on a carpet-covered dais at one side of the room. Painted onto the molding that encircles the ceiling, a border of pastel seashells repeats upon the doors of a polished court cupboard and on its washbasin and pitcher. Across from the paneled door is a velvet lounge and a small circular table. Also here is Mage Protector Ashinara of the Royal Guard.
Obvious Exits: None.
You close a paneled wooden door.
You lock the lock on a paneled wooden door.
Ashinara sits on a mauve velvet lounge.
You pace back and forth.
Ashinara says, "I trusted you with information that I knew. I told you that I didn't want him to know and you told him anyways."
You emote: Aurorah whirls toward Ashinara with something approaching madness in her tear-filled eyes.
Ashinara gazes at you.
You emote: Aurorah tears at her hair and shrieks, "Don't you understand I feel as if I am losing my sanity?! These headaches, the constant shrieking of violins! I cannot think. I cannot have a moment of peace. I cannot enjoy my life!"
Ashinara says, "I do, and im trying to help in every way I can."
You exclaim at Ashinara, "I am sorry I betrayed your confidence. I am very sorry. It is breaking my heart, but I am clutching at straws. Straws!"
Ashinara says, "For all we know this Mael fellow could be causing the deaths with one of his other items of power."
You emote: Aurorah flings herself onto the bed face down and sobs into the pillow.
Ashinara sighs.
Ashinara says, "Im sorry I don't know what else to do. I just know how to investigate. Im not upset at you for doing what you think you need to, just that you didn't trust me enough to wait until we were sure. I hope he is here to help I really do."
You emote: Aurorah's voice is muffled by the pillow and the constant wracking sobs that shake her entire body. "I do trust you. I do. But he appears to be the only person who knows anything about this. Perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps I have committed a grievous error in judgement. I just don't know how else we can be sure. This waiting is driving me mad."
Ashinara sighs.
Ashinara says, "I don't know what else to do."
You emote: Aurorah wails into the pillow, "And now I have offended the only person in all of Peregorne who loves me truly."
Ashinara says, "I just wish you would have trusted me."
Ashinara says, "I may be wrong."
Ashinara says, "I don't know."
Ashinara lies down on a mauve velvet lounge.
You emote: Aurorah hollowly says, "If you do not wish to stay the night here I will understand."
Ashinara says, "I will, I just need to think, try and figure out what to do next. Aurorah I still love you im just..a bit mad."
Ashinara rolls over on the couch lying there lost in thought for awhile until he falls asleep.
You say to Ashinara, "Perhaps I am a fool. I do not..."
Your group has been disbanded.
You emote: Aurorah realizes Ashinara is fast asleep, gets up and walks out the door. She sighs resignedly after closing it and locking it behind her murmuring, "If it takes Otrygg having to insert a hot poker into my skull to rid myself of this, then I will have to do it. I cannot endure this anymore." _________________ You emote: Aurorah stands on her hind legs and swats playfully at the oylet's tail.
[beta] Aurorah: FAIL
